Traditional leader commits to ending child marriage

It Takes A World To End Violence Against Children Child Marriage Community Participation Child Rights and Equity Southern Africa Africa

Through its Campaign against Child Marriage, World Vision works with several stakeholders to address child marriage in communities. Traditional leaders are among major stakeholders in the campaign.

Chief Liteta of the  Lenje-speaking people of Chibombo District, is one of the key people that are influential in spearheading the fight against child abuse in his chiefdom. In this video, the traditional leader makes a commitment to ending child marriage and other forms of violence against children.

A traditional leader uses farming to end child marriage
Like many developing countries, Zambia still grapples with child marriage. Many girls, particularly from lower-income environments in Zambia, are married off at a very young age and, in the process, denied access to education and dignified life. Working with developmental organisations like World Vision and UNICEF, His Royal Highness Chief Kanyama has put in place task force committees to ensure that they do away with harmful traditional practices in the village.
