Somalia's drought worsens, increasing the risk of famine
As of 30 June, the severe drought in Somalia has affected more than 7 million people - an increase from 6.1 million in May. More than 800,000 people internally displaced. The majority of people have moved from drought-stricken rural areas to makeshift settlements in urban towns and cities, seeking humanitarian assistance. The scale of need is far outstripping the current assistance, driven by daily new arrivals of displaced families into makeshift camps.
